In desiring to know more about practical applications for numerology, many people focus on how to win the lottery or hit it big in the stock market.

Others find it simply amusing to know their “personal number” by adding up the numbers in the date of birth. By assigning numbers to each letter of the alphabet (A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, etc.), the letters in your name can be translated into a numerological code revealing information about destiny, strengths and weaknesses, life path, and karmic lessons.

Numbers have been a part of human culture long before alphabets. The earliest forms of writing existed for purposes of counting things; simple hash marks or tallying. Across cultures — Egyptian, Mayan, Babylonian, Hebrew, Greek, and Chinese— eerily similar counting systems developed, most likely as a result of first counting on fingers, hands and toes and how to represent that with a specific marking. The shapes and sounds of these numbers also became the basis for the shapes and sounds of letters. In fact, often letters and numbers are completely transferable. The sound and shape of the number-letter are also taken into consideration.

Since numbers and letters possessed so much power, they were naturally used as an oracle or form of divination for exploring the deeper meaning of life. Several forms of numerology developed over time among Chinese, Greeks, Hebrews, and early Christians.

It’s one thing to add up your numbers and say, “I’m a seven!” but not really understand what that means. With thousands of years of analysis to back it up, numerology looks at the numbers, and also patterns and repetitions. Repetitive numbers may indicate strengths, while missing number can highlight potential weaknesses. The presence of master numbers warrants further attention.

“What are master numbers?” you may ask.

This refers to double-digit numbers such as 11, 22, 33, 44…or combinations of 111, 11:11, 22:22 or 333.

These numbers are recognized as higher energy numbers associated with great accomplishments — or great destruction for those unable to handle the higher energy.
